Alison Nelson’s Chocolate Bar Breakfast Review – Porto Arabia, The Pearl

Overall Review Tucked at the edge of the Porto Arabia district lies a cute little restaurant called Chocolate Bar. I’m sure many have heard and/or dined at this place already. For those of you who haven’t, it’s a must to try. This is my third time to come here for breakfast and their food and service is consistently good. We came in early at 8AM and we have the whole place to ourselves. The view is great as it is directly beside the sea. The seating areas are ample both in and out and thankfully, the morning heat was quite tolerable (38C is good for Qatar summer standards!) so we got to sit outside. They have a good but limited breakfast selection, but if I’m not mistaken you can also order from their regular menu. We ordered the American Breakfast consisting of eggs of your choice, crispy and non-greasy veal bacon and perfectly cooked hash browns, which comes with their fantastic bread and croissant basket. I really love their croissants; it’s flaky, buttery and amazing. …

Yee Hwa Sunday Night Sushi Buffet Edition – Al Kinana, Al Nasr

Overall Review Yee Hwa is one of my favorite restaurants in Doha. It’s like the open secret of quality but affordable Japanese and Korean food. And boy, they do know their stuff. Two of their biggest sellers are the Sunday Night Sushi Buffet and Monday and Wednesday Korean BBQ Grill, starts from 6PM til 11PM.  Mr. QE and I decided (more like I decided and Mr. QE conceded) to go straight there after work. Luckily, we came in early and there were seats readily available. They served us with the usual Korean “appetizers” (not sure what they’re all called but they were yummy).  Then came the sushi buffet menu. Granted that they’re not offering all their sushi variety in this menu but this is like the nth time that I tried it and I’d still say that it’s more than enough. The sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi are all made upon order which is nice as you know they are fresh. Make no mistake, even if it’s a buffet they still maintain a good quality …

Playstation Cafeteria – Doha Corniche

Overall Review “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is the first thing that’ll come to mind when you see the place for the first time. Given that it’s in a dark area, the outside is also nondescript and the inside’s interior is dreary. It’s really not a place you would think that would serve good food, right? Wrong!  The food, oh the food that they serve makes up for what the restaurant lacks in aesthetic features. It’s good enough to make you forget the place and focus in your eating experience.  We ordered a seafood hotpot, crispy chicken, crispy shrimp, and beef dumplings. It may not sound much but man, it was a lot. I mean, a looot. There were 4 of us and we didn’t even get to finish them! The food was fresh, serving size is really big and the hotpot was amazing. I mean, the quality of their food is that of mid-class restaurants. I really can’t endorse this restaurant enough. Like if you’re looking for a place where you can …

Baba Sausage – 01 Mall

Review The other day, I had to make a quick run for a take away lunch and the nearest place with restaurants from the office is the 01 Mall in Abu Hamour (behind Aramex). Saw this place was opened already so I decided to try it. I ordered the classic sausage sandwich and a “dippy dog”. Their sausages are good as it’s handmade and not the processed ones. The bread they use is a baguette which is nice but it made the sanwich quite heavy. The dippy dog was amazing though! It reminds me of those waffle dogs, the only difference is that their instead of waffle they use some sort of bread coating. (They used a processed hotdog for this) The place has a contemporary feel with a stained glass style window and wood paneled design all over. The restaurant itself is small but it was cleverly designed with high walls to give it that feel of space.  They also have this Bell Buster Challenge wherein you have to finish a set meal in …
