Late Night Baking: Brownie Butter Cake

Originally posted on the reformed junk food junkie:
Things have been cray-cray for the past month in the office that I barely baked, cooked, blogged, create my own recipes and even surf the web for yummy recipes. Depressing, really!  So for tonight, I’m throwing out my laptop (nah, I just left it at the office), put on my apron and imaginary chef’s hat (which is rainbow-pastel colored) and started doing what I (feel) do best; baking. When things get quite intense, I crave sweets.  On the way home I told my husband I wanted TCBY, then changed my mind and said I wanted Krispy Kreme.  Then as we headed out to buy some, I changed my mind since I was tired (bless his heart for putting up with my caprices).  So I just surfed the web to look at recipes randomly and I came across on of my favorite sites, Rasa Malaysia and the recipe is called Brownie Butter Cake.  Need I say more? No? Okay, now prepare to drool. Brownie Butter Cake Ingredients: Brownie: 140g (5oz)…

Greener Eating: A refreshing garden dinner by Qatar Living and Chef’s Garden

(Super late post, sorry!) I always get excited when invitations for food bloggers events come my way. It means that I’ll be meeting old and new acquaintances. But most of all, I also get the chance to discover restaurants I haven’t visited yet. This time, I was invited by Rochelle Zonnenberg (http://questandmark.com) of Qatar Living to join their garden dinner at the Chef’s Garden Restaurant and Café. Going there was quite a task as I’m not familiar with area. It’s located near QNCC, beside the Al Shaqab Academy. Got lost three times and felt a bit cranky from the traffic, it all dissipated when I arrived at the place. The restaurant was a like breath of fresh air, literally. It’s all about the space; the high ceiling,  the space between the tables, minimalist design, every little details just worked. It has an understated elegance that makes you go “ooooh” the first time you see it. If simplicity is beauty then this restaurant takes the cake. So, bravo the one who spearheaded this concept and the …

High Tea: Gourmet House at Kempinski Residences and Suites, West Bay

My elder sister and I finally found the time to hang out and chill. And being sisters, when we say “bonding”, we mean eating. But the question was: buffet or a la carte? Being that 4PM was too early for dinner and we just had lunch, we decided to go for a high tea at Gourmet House.  The interior of the café was tastefully done, it gives you a feeling of space eventhough it’s just a small area.        And the food displays were a sight for the hungry eyes.         We ordered the set for 2 and didn’t know what to expect.  According to the menu, it includes two of either tea or coffee and a three-tier tray of finger sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Sounds promising already. It took a while to bring food but it was a sight to behold.  The cakes and sandwiches were really good and it was a lot more for two people. Another thing, their hot drinks are free-flowing. Price-wise, you’d be hard-pressed to find a high …

Guest Experience at The Address Hotel Dubai Mall – UAE

One Thursday night, Mr. Eats came up with a decision “let’s go to dubai tomorrow”, a trip was scheduled for the following weekend just became a spontaneous getaway. Planning and booking started by 10pm that night. There was no time for visa atrangement or even packing anything. So, to makes things easy, we booked our arrival at AL Makthoum Airport, got visas-on-arrival and proceeded to head to the hotel. After a 30-minute taxi ride, we arrived at The Address Dubai Mall by 9AM. Knowing that the check in time is 3PM, our plan was to drop off the bags ( small handbag and his work laptop!!) at the reception and head out to the Mall. We were surprised when the receptionist offered us different room type than our booking  (did it via Booking.com) with Burj Khalifa view and an upgraded package (originally bed and breakfast) to package with four meals served at the lounge, free laundry for couple pieces and airport drop on checkout. To top that, she asked an agent to accompany us to …

Dinner Buffet: Sridan – Shangri-La Hotel, Doha

Located at the 2nd level of one of the newest hotels in Qatar, it’s not hard to see why Sridan is making a buzz in the Qatar foodie circle. Never been a fan of buffets as I can barely taste all of the food but hey, 2016 is a good year to start soemthing new and this restaurant was a good choice. Decorated with a lavish Arabic Decor, the restaurant gives you that feeling comfort and coziness. We were warmly greeted by maître and since it was our first time to visit, she courteously took her time to give us a tour of the restaurant. They offer international flavors like Asian, Moroccan, Japanese; and the standard live cooking station with steaks, fishes, seafood, and the dessert and beverage stations. Food review Here are some of the foods that we have eaten:               Overall, the food varieties were a collection of hits and misses. I would say that the grilling, Moroccan and Asian stations (especially the soups) were very good. …

Emirgan Sütis 1st Anniversary Celebration- Al Emadi Bldg., C-Ring Road

Yours truly got invited to Emirgan Sutis’ 1st anniversary celebration last 15th of December and man, basing from the food reviews I’ve seen of the restaurant, was I excited to go. Arriving 30 minutes earlier (beat the traffic, yay!) than the call time, I stayed outside to revel the on the chilly weather (which I’m really regretting, having the sniffles right now) and had a little chat with Jek and Lavanya of Al Siddiqi Hospitality. Then one by one, fellow bloggers like Allyson and Karen, Doaa, Khamsa, and Hala started showing up which made the event really lively. So here’s the menu (it may look short but the servings were humongous): And now, for the mandatory food pictures:           We didn’t have desserts which we thought was a bit of a letdown to think that after all that meat, our palates needed a change of taste. However, we got a takeaway goodie bag, which consisted of…if you guessed Turkish sweets, then you are right. A cute selection of baklava and a simit (Turkish pretzel) …

Nothing special but tasty enough for us not to feel bad that we ate here. Price:  Returning? Meh, most probably as it is one of the nearest restaurants that’s not a fast food chain.

New menu tasting at Tamarind Indian – Lagoona Mall

I was lucky enough to get invited to another new menu tasting, now by the amazing Doaa of Hungry Birds Doha, partnered with Lifestyle Restaurants.  Located at the restaurant strip of Lagoona Mall, Tamarind Indian is small but with a posh design that gives the look of spaciousness. We were greeted by Sumit, Head of Marketing for Lifestyle Restaurants, who also handles other restaurants like Burger Gourmet, Copacabana, Royal Indian and much more.  I had the happy chance of seeing these lovely ladies; Gopika of Gop’s Gourmet , Manju of , Gayathri of The Veggie Patch Lady, Khamsa of Creativity with Kay, Inez of Inez_Qatar , Kim of Mama Baba Ghanoush, the fashion squad of Inez of Inez_Qatar, Allyson and Karen of Life with Karlly.I also got to meet new ladies; Sahr of The Oryx Land Life.  We started with the tasting menu presentation and boy it was a long one.   And now, the food pics in order of the menu:                             And yes, they look as good as they …

Al Mayass 2nd Anniversary Celebration – La Croisette Porto Arabia, The Pearl

Mr. QE and I got invited to the 2nd anniversary and new menu launch of Al Mayass Restaurant last Dec. 6.  It was a good chance to for us as we haven’t eaten there yet.  Located at the tip of The Pearl, this place offers an outside sitting with a very nice view of the sea.  We were greeted warmly by the restaurant staff and the Ali Bin Ali Hospitality marketing team who hosted the event.  The restaurant offers a mix of Armenian and Lebanese cuisines. We were served a wonderful array of mezze for starters:                        I didn’t get to take pics of the other mains as food kept on appearing on our plates! Thank you Al Mayass and ABA Hospitality team for the invite. We enjoyed the food so much that were planning to visit this place soon.  Ciao!
