Sushi Rolls – Oishi Doha (Made to Order)

Another short review here. I happen to chance upon Oishi Doha’s FB page. They make made-to-order sushi rolls and they have five flavors available:  California Maki Kani- Avocado Maki Shrimp – Kani with Mango roll Shrimp Teriyaki Tempura  Spicy Shrimp Maki Krab Tempura Maki Prices:  20 pcs – 2 flavors – 60 Qr 30 pcs – 3 flavors -90 QR 40 pcs- 4 flavors -120 QR 50 pcs – 5 flavors 150 QR I ordered 3 flavors (Spicy Shrimp, California Maki, Shrimp Kani with Mango) and all of them were tasty.  Overall Review: The sushi rolls are quite good, like the ones that you can get from the ususal Japanese restaurants. For the price, I would say that it is worth it, 10 pieces for QR30.  Customer service: They don’t do deliveries however, as they located in Mansoura, it won’t be a hassle for most people to pick up their orders. Returning? Yes, I’ll definitely order again. Here’s their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Oishi-Doha/628018547265306 Advertisements

Breakfast Buffet – Students’ Canteen in Education City

This review is going to be a short one as the canteen and it’s food are straight -on.  Choices are quite limited but hey, for QR 15, it’s a lot already and the food is decent for its price. They have the usual breakfast items:     eggs, sausage and salad but you can also find fried rice ( for my fellow Asians who are used to have it for breakfast), roasted potatoes and carrots, pancakes, breads, sticky bread rolls, fruits and hot and cold beverages.     The canteen is just past Weil Cornell University, I think it’s near the Female Student Housing. But I heard that there’s another canteen just near the Male Student Housing, too. Definitely going back to try their QR 28 lunch buffet. I was told that they serve a wide variety for food.

The French Olive – Barwa Al Sadd

Overall Review Located in one of the busiest streets of Doha, this restaurant still curiously makes you feel as if it’s hidden away outside of the city. And once you step inside, it just gets better. From the gorgeous tree trunk table as a centre piece of the interior decór to the floor tile patterns, everything whispers elegance without overwhelming guests.   Now for the food. What can I say? When you go to a beautiful restaurant, you automatically expect to be served visually and gustatory stimulating food. And boy, they didn’t disappoint! Every food item was a star on their own right. Perfectly cooked, delicately  seasoned, plated beautifully. Although the prices are a bit steep, I felt that it was definitely worth it for a special occassion or just random foodie splurge. Food Ordered: Arancini (Deep Fried Rice Balls) It was heavy enough to be enjoyed as a main course. Crunchy on the outside, soft rice, cheese, and mushroom inside.      Calamari Fritti Just your usual fried squid. I mean you can’t go wrong with it …

Alison Nelson’s Chocolate Bar Breakfast Review – Porto Arabia, The Pearl

Overall Review Tucked at the edge of the Porto Arabia district lies a cute little restaurant called Chocolate Bar. I’m sure many have heard and/or dined at this place already. For those of you who haven’t, it’s a must to try. This is my third time to come here for breakfast and their food and service is consistently good. We came in early at 8AM and we have the whole place to ourselves. The view is great as it is directly beside the sea. The seating areas are ample both in and out and thankfully, the morning heat was quite tolerable (38C is good for Qatar summer standards!) so we got to sit outside. They have a good but limited breakfast selection, but if I’m not mistaken you can also order from their regular menu. We ordered the American Breakfast consisting of eggs of your choice, crispy and non-greasy veal bacon and perfectly cooked hash browns, which comes with their fantastic bread and croissant basket. I really love their croissants; it’s flaky, buttery and amazing. …

Yee Hwa Sunday Night Sushi Buffet Edition – Al Kinana, Al Nasr

Overall Review Yee Hwa is one of my favorite restaurants in Doha. It’s like the open secret of quality but affordable Japanese and Korean food. And boy, they do know their stuff. Two of their biggest sellers are the Sunday Night Sushi Buffet and Monday and Wednesday Korean BBQ Grill, starts from 6PM til 11PM.  Mr. QE and I decided (more like I decided and Mr. QE conceded) to go straight there after work. Luckily, we came in early and there were seats readily available. They served us with the usual Korean “appetizers” (not sure what they’re all called but they were yummy).  Then came the sushi buffet menu. Granted that they’re not offering all their sushi variety in this menu but this is like the nth time that I tried it and I’d still say that it’s more than enough. The sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi are all made upon order which is nice as you know they are fresh. Make no mistake, even if it’s a buffet they still maintain a good quality …

Playstation Cafeteria – Doha Corniche

Overall Review “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is the first thing that’ll come to mind when you see the place for the first time. Given that it’s in a dark area, the outside is also nondescript and the inside’s interior is dreary. It’s really not a place you would think that would serve good food, right? Wrong!  The food, oh the food that they serve makes up for what the restaurant lacks in aesthetic features. It’s good enough to make you forget the place and focus in your eating experience.  We ordered a seafood hotpot, crispy chicken, crispy shrimp, and beef dumplings. It may not sound much but man, it was a lot. I mean, a looot. There were 4 of us and we didn’t even get to finish them! The food was fresh, serving size is really big and the hotpot was amazing. I mean, the quality of their food is that of mid-class restaurants. I really can’t endorse this restaurant enough. Like if you’re looking for a place where you can …

Wagamama – Ezdan Mall

Food Review My friend and I had a yen for ramen today so we decided to eat at Wagamama in Ezdan. This is the first time that we will try their ramen and we thought that based from our previous experience with their delicious food, the ramen would be amazing. For starters, my friend and I ordered the chili squid with spicy mayonnaise and pickles and chicken gyoza. Waiting time was quite short, about 15 minutes, given that they were quite full. Both appetizers were good: the chili squid was great, not too hot to overpower your palate. The chicken gyoza was nice, too. It was firm and cooked nicely. For the main course, we both ordered ramen. She ordered beef ramen and I got the Wagamama ramen.  We were quite optimistic that this would be quite good. The ramen serving is good for two as it comes in a big bowl. Beef Ramen: The grilled beef was quite bland. There was also a lot of bean sprouts that overshadowed the noodles.  I found it okay …

Blue at the Grand Heritage Doha Hotel and Spa

Food Ordered Tempura Shrimp Cocktai l Chef’s Sushi Platter Dragon Roll Tiramisu Profiteroles with ice cream Food Review Hands down, the best sushi I’ve had in Qatar so far. It’s like really, really good. Especially the Dragon Roll. The place was nice and they have an outside sitting area, we just weren’t able to go there as it was summer during that time. Service was average. Customer Service: Average Price QR200 per person (approx.) Returning? Yes! Location: Aspire Zone, Sports City Street | Grand Heritage Doha Hotel and Spa, Doha PO Box 92996, Qatar
