Splurge Eats: Sky Lounge at The Torch Doha – 51st Flr.

Mr. Qatar Eats and I had a long day fixing our kitchen today and it was in a total state of mess, which meant no cooking will be done.  And with couple’s usual fashion of “what-do-we-eat” question and “I-don’t-know-you-choose” answer, we both agreed to try the sushi night (no buffet) at the Sky Lounge. We arrived at the 51st floor thru connecting elevator rides (you stop at 47th flr and transit to the next elevator). I got quite confused for a moment as we stepped out and thought I had to enter thru a curtained door (which was the fire exit 😒) as there was no reception area at the entrance. Finally found a staff who attended to us immediately and seated us at the smoking area.    Food Review We ordered Crispy Tuna Roll, California Maki, Smoked Salmon and Shrimp Nigiri (left plate) and Tuna and Salmon Sashimi (right plate).     The sushi rolls and nigiri were so-so in flavor. I mean, it’s okay but as I mentioned to one person, there was no …

The French Olive – Barwa Al Sadd

Overall Review Located in one of the busiest streets of Doha, this restaurant still curiously makes you feel as if it’s hidden away outside of the city. And once you step inside, it just gets better. From the gorgeous tree trunk table as a centre piece of the interior decór to the floor tile patterns, everything whispers elegance without overwhelming guests.   Now for the food. What can I say? When you go to a beautiful restaurant, you automatically expect to be served visually and gustatory stimulating food. And boy, they didn’t disappoint! Every food item was a star on their own right. Perfectly cooked, delicately  seasoned, plated beautifully. Although the prices are a bit steep, I felt that it was definitely worth it for a special occassion or just random foodie splurge. Food Ordered: Arancini (Deep Fried Rice Balls) It was heavy enough to be enjoyed as a main course. Crunchy on the outside, soft rice, cheese, and mushroom inside.      Calamari Fritti Just your usual fried squid. I mean you can’t go wrong with it …

The Anvil Rooms – Tornado Tower

Overview: The restaurant is located at the 28th flr. of the Tornado Tower in West Bay.  It has a great food and great view of the Corniche to boot.  Fab Friend and I specifically went out for this restaurant to take advantage of the NY Restaurant Week  celebration. It’s a three course meal (exc. drinks) for QR91 (lunch) and QR138 (dinner), which is really a good deal especially that normal pricing is a bit pricey.  The restaurant interior is cozy, laid-back and romantic  The staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable about their menu. Now, let’s talk about the food.  It was a-freakin’-mazing! From the bread basket up to the last tiny piece of the dessert, the food was flawless. Food Review: Appetizers: Truffled tagliatte, onion puree, roasted wild mushroom and morel foam – Nothing mattered that time except for this food. It commands your full attention, whispers seductively in your ear saying all the words that you’ve been waiting to hear: “I’m all yours”. Mesquite smoked cod and salt baked beetroot, tarragon mayonnaise and horseradish …

Blue at the Grand Heritage Doha Hotel and Spa

Food Ordered Tempura Shrimp Cocktai l Chef’s Sushi Platter Dragon Roll Tiramisu Profiteroles with ice cream Food Review Hands down, the best sushi I’ve had in Qatar so far. It’s like really, really good. Especially the Dragon Roll. The place was nice and they have an outside sitting area, we just weren’t able to go there as it was summer during that time. Service was average. Customer Service: Average Price QR200 per person (approx.) Returning? Yes! Location: Aspire Zone, Sports City Street | Grand Heritage Doha Hotel and Spa, Doha PO Box 92996, Qatar
